LoopDeLoop - Bang

My LoopdeLoop entry:

The theme for November was: BANG.

It was more of an experiment in designing a unique character and then doing the rigging and animation in After Effects. Of course I was tempted to do a lot of effects once I started playing around in AFX.

LoopDeLoop - Future - Making Of

This little video shows the process through I went to create my LoopdeLoop runner-up entry

For October the theme was FUTURE. After a quick brainstorming session, I had a few fun ideas in mind but I opted for something fun as I knew that I could only spend a few days on designing and animating. I kept things simple and fun.

After I settled on the idea that I had, I gathered as much references as possible. All sorts of references, and that included a video of myself.

Then I blocked out the rough timing, to build on that up until the final version all in Flash...

This is the movie that inspired me (Note the pink hover board!):

LoopDeLoop - Future

My LoopdeLoop runner-up entry:

For October the theme was FUTURE.

As usuals a few ideas popped into my mind but this time I decided to do something about it and actually create something for fun. The Hover Board chase scene from the movie Back to the Future 2 is so memorable for me that I wanted to pay an homage to it and craft an animation about hover boards.

Mum and Dad Sketch

I find myself sketching a lot more these days. I don't know if it's because of my animation background, but they are mostly random sketches and doodles, instead of final polished drawings! I'll share some anyway :)

Here is the sketch of my mum and dad. I  miss my parents. It seemed like there is always this standard picture of them that I have in my head since I last saw them, even though they are now older...

Tribute to Moebius

RIP the legend Moebius (1938-2012)...

*I first saw that scene from  Moebius a long time ago but i never got it out of my head... I had to make it move...

Wondercon 2012

OK, I haven't posted much lately. Well that's because my trip to Los Angeles is keeping me very busy at the moment. As I am in California, it was a great opportunity to attend Wondercon for the first time in my life. To be honest, I was not too sure of what to expect, but in the end I was pleasantly surprised. I attended a lot of the panel talks and some of them were very inspiring and taught me a lot about the process that some of the comic artists go through.

There was a huge crowd as well, which shows that the comics industry is as strong as ever!
Best of all, seeing and meeting so many well known professional artists gathered together under one roof is just a unique scene to be at. And of course I had to get some inspirational books from some if my favourite artists and with a little note from them! :)

So inspired to create now...

Global Game Jam 2012

Team PokPok participated in the Global Game Jam 2012 in Sydney. It is basically a game jam event where you get to create a game in only 48 hours based on a common secret theme.
We created a little experimental game called Maru. My role was being the designer and animator.

The video below is a basic preview of how the game plays.

It was an interesting experience indeed. I was very tired and grumpy after the 48 hours, but I learnt a lot from it and I'm now even more hungry to create more...
