Tribute to Moebius

RIP the legend Moebius (1938-2012)...

*I first saw that scene from  Moebius a long time ago but i never got it out of my head... I had to make it move...

Wondercon 2012

OK, I haven't posted much lately. Well that's because my trip to Los Angeles is keeping me very busy at the moment. As I am in California, it was a great opportunity to attend Wondercon for the first time in my life. To be honest, I was not too sure of what to expect, but in the end I was pleasantly surprised. I attended a lot of the panel talks and some of them were very inspiring and taught me a lot about the process that some of the comic artists go through.

There was a huge crowd as well, which shows that the comics industry is as strong as ever!
Best of all, seeing and meeting so many well known professional artists gathered together under one roof is just a unique scene to be at. And of course I had to get some inspirational books from some if my favourite artists and with a little note from them! :)

So inspired to create now...

Global Game Jam 2012

Team PokPok participated in the Global Game Jam 2012 in Sydney. It is basically a game jam event where you get to create a game in only 48 hours based on a common secret theme.
We created a little experimental game called Maru. My role was being the designer and animator.

The video below is a basic preview of how the game plays.

It was an interesting experience indeed. I was very tired and grumpy after the 48 hours, but I learnt a lot from it and I'm now even more hungry to create more...

Jack in da box

Finally, here is an update with some artwork from a R&D piece that Hendrik and I worked on at Soap Creative for the Monster Art Show to celebrate Halloween.

My role as the concept artist/designer was to come up with the character visuals while Hendrik modelled and rigged the character to implement into Unity to work with the Kinect. It was lots of fun as it was more of an experimental interactive piece of art for the opening night of the exhibition.

Digital concept art painting of the character

From basic shapes, to sketches, to finger painting, to a black and white volumetric study

3d model with the textures that I painted over
Here is an actual quick screen recording of the work in progress:
